John Whitmarsh was baptized on March 3, 1624 in Shepton Mallet, Somerset,
England. He was the son of John Whitmarsh and his wife, Alice, and came
over from England with the Hull Company in1635. He was a Housewright and
served in King Philip's War, in Captain Torrey's Company, in 1675. John
married Sarah Harding, the daughter of John Harding, about 1654. He owned
much property in Weymouth, Massachusetts as well as elsewhere. All of the
above children were born in Weymouth. Their son, Ezra, was a graduate of
Harvard College and was a man of great influence in Weymouth for a long
period of time.
