about 1800, Louis claimed 400 superfical arpents of land on the
left bank of the Red River and inhabited and cultivated the land
probably until after 1824. In 1803 Louis claimed 640 acres of
land bordering on the property he already owned. Louis and his
father lived and worked close together logging and raising
enought food for their own subsistence.
Louis had over 1000 acres of piney woods with the best virgin
pine in the area, and he located right on the river which was
perfect for transporting logs to one of the sawmills located up
or down river.
It is believed that Louis moved his family to Catahoula Lake in
the 1830's
